How much does a private pilot license cost in St. Louis?
At Show Me Pilots, flight training is $165 an hour for the Cessna 150 and instructor together. The FAA minimum is 40 flight hours, so flight time can be as low as $6,600. Most students need more than the minimum. Ground lessons are $25 an hour, and the written test and the examiner's checkride fee are paid separately.
Where are the flight lessons?
All flight training is at Spirit of St. Louis Airport (KSUS) in Chesterfield, Missouri, in west St. Louis County and just across the Missouri River from St. Charles County. It's a towered airport, so you work the radios with a real control tower from your first lesson.
What does a discovery flight cost?
A discovery flight is a flat $50. You take the controls on your first flight with a certified flight instructor beside you.
Do I have to sign a contract or prepay for a package?
No. There are no contracts and no packages to buy. Flight time is billed by the hour, with no pre-flight or post-flight fees.
What airplane will I train in?
A Cessna 150, a two-seat trainer built for learning to fly. It costs less per hour to run than the four-seat trainers most flight schools use, which keeps your training cost down.
How old do I need to be to learn to fly?
You can start lessons at any age. The FAA lets you fly solo at 16 and earn a private pilot certificate at 17. You'll need an FAA medical certificate before your first solo.
Who is the flight instructor?
Every lesson is with Carter Rosenberger, a CFI, CFII, and MEI based at Spirit of St. Louis Airport. You work with the same instructor from your first flight to your checkride.
